Sho-saiko-to, also known as Xiao Chai Hu Tang in traditional Chinese medicine, is a herbal formula used in East Asian traditional medicine. It is composed of a combination of several herbs, including Bupleurum (Chai Hu), Scutellaria (Huang Qin), Pinellia (Ban Xia), Ginseng (Ren Shen), Licorice (Gan Cao), Jujube (Da Zao), and Ginger (Sheng Jiang).

Sho-saiko-to is primarily used in traditional Chinese medicine and Kampo medicine (traditional Japanese herbal medicine) to treat various liver-related conditions, including chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer. It is believed to have hepatoprotective properties and may help regulate liver function and reduce inflammation. Additionally, Sho-saiko-to is also used to support the immune system and improve overall health and well-being.

You may be a right candidate if you have one of the following symptoms:

  1. Persistent low fever
  2. Nausea and vomiting
  3. Loss of appetite
  4. Oral discomfort (bitter taste, stickiness in the mouth, change in taste)

Do not take it if you have the any of the following conditions

(1) taking interferon preparations,

(2) with liver cirrhosis or liver cancer, or

(3) with chronic hepatitis with a platelet count of 100,000/mm3 or less (liver cirrhosis is suspected).
